Chinook Winds Perform Kammermusik Konzert - a Program of German Chamber Music

The Chinook Winds will present Kammermusik on Friday, November 22 at 7pm in the Masonic Temple (821 Central Ave.) and Sunday, November 24 at 2pm in the First Congregational UCC Church (2900 9th Ave. S). Single admission is $15 for adults and $5 for students. Family passes are $15 and include admission for one student and one adult. Bring-a-friend packages are available online only at gfsymphony.org and include two adult admissions for $25. Four-ticket passes are available for $45 (adults) and $16 (students). Season passes grant seven admissions and may be purchased for $75 (adults) and $25 (students). The Great Falls Symphony Chamber Series features the Chinook Winds performing works by German composers from the 19th and 20th centuries. The program will begin with Johannes Brahms’s popular Hungarian Dances Nos. 3 and 18. Originally written for piano and later arranged for orchestra, the wind quintet adaptation by Chinook Winds’ Bassoonist, Dorian Antipa, is a wonderful introduction to these short and enjoyable pieces. Hermann Zilcher’s colorful “Four Seasons” contains colorful music representing Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter. Although Zilcher is not known to a wide audience, his music incorporates later German Romantic style with a fresh, more modern sound. After the intermission, the Chinook Winds perform Hanns Eisler’s short, but intricate “Divertimento,” which explores the playful and different personalities of each instrument. The concert concludes with Theodor Blumer’s beautiful and heroic “Wind Quintet. Its sound is heavily influenced by composers Richard Strauss and Richard Wagner.
