Musician Spotlight: Cindy Duffy

Cindy Duffy is a member of our Symphonic Choir in (mainly) the Alto section.

Cindy has been singing all her life, and her passion has taken to her wonderful places. She first sang in the Great Falls High School choir, where she sat in front of her high school sweetheart and future husband, Tom. Nearly 50 years later, they are still together. She fondly recalls Tom as the class clown, and always getting himself into trouble. They both sang under the direction of Paul Ritter during those years.

After high school, Cindy attended college and earned her degree in secondary education with an emphasis in English. She began teaching in Great Falls, but later went back for her Masters in integrating the arts into curriculum. Fun fact, during her masters program she studied under Professor Nancy Carlsson-Paige, actor Matt Damon’s mom! She taught English in Great Falls for more than 30 years and officially retired this spring.

One day, Cindy received a call from her former choir director, Paul Ritter, who had become the Symphonic Choir Director for the Great Falls Symphony. He invited both Cindy and Tom to join. They have been singing in the choir together for more than 20 years. She and Tom believe strongly in passing down the love for the arts and music to their children and grandchildren who all play an instrument, sing, or dance. Cindy says that singing together is one of the things they love most as a couple.

They have even sung together overseas! They sang in the International Touring Choir in Florence Italy under John Rutter just a few years ago. The choir included vocalists from all over the world and debuted the Rutter Requiem in Florence. In fact, there is a video of the performance available here👉 https://youtu.be/OhcMQCkQIJM?feature=shared

Please enjoy spotting Cindy and Tom in the video amongst the choir, as marked below!

We would like to thank Cindy and Tom for their many years in the choir, and honor Cindy for her 30+ years of teaching in Great Falls. She has had an incredible impact in our community.
