Musician Spotlight: Mary Papoulis
Mary Papoulis is the Co-Concertmaster in the orchestra and a member of the Cascade Quartet.
Mary intertwines music into everything in her life, and plays often outside of the orchestra and Quartet! She enjoys performing as half of a duo, playing a kaleidoscope of genres in the community, at fairs, and privately. She says she often finds freedom in improvisation and the creative magic that happens when you let go of the structure of sheet music.
Mary loves to be on the move. She has been a yoga teacher and expressive arts therapist and loves to hike, bike, and swim. She says she challenges herself to jump into every glacier-fed lake she can find and has swum in most of the ones in Montana! She enjoys being outdoors and in nature. Mary loves dance of all kinds and is enjoying discovering how to intertwine it with violin and create a new form of combined art as self-expression. She says her favorite thing about dance is the community she has made.
Meeting so many people in the arts and dance community has brought a bright light to her life. She thrives on connecting with her community, valuing the transformative power of art and its ability to go beyond words. Mary really values the warmth of being in a community that recognizes her work and the art she brings to the world. She invites everyone to explore music’s deeper connection to self-expression, creativity, and soul nourishment.
In our Mozart concert on November 9th, Mary will be featured in Mozart's D Major Violin Concerto and will be improvising her own cadenzas live on stage! Join us for never-before-heard Mary Papoulis original cadenzas and help us celebrate the vibrant energy and artistic depth Mary brings to our community!
